Worship: What to Expect

The Holy Eucharist: The Eucharist is the primary worship service of the church on Sundays and Holy Days. It is also called "Mass" or "Holy Communion". The service always includes a sermon. A said Eucharist lasts about 35-40 minutes. A Sung Eucharist lasts about one hour and includes well-known hymns and lots of congregational singing! Rite I services are celebrated using tradition Anglican English ("thee" and "thy"). Rite II services are celebrated using contemporary/modern day Enlgish language.

Ways To Praise: On Sundays at 5:00 PM we offer Ways To Praise, a 20-25 minute service which draws on the great variety of ways that Christians throughout the world have praised God through prayer and song. Throughout the year the church observes liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany Season, Lent, Easter, etc.), each with their own theme and integrity. Ways To Praise will vary according to the season. In Advent, the season that leads into Christmas, we will offer a shortened form of Advent Lessons & Carols. In Christmastide we will offer a shortened form of Christmas Lessons & Carols. In the dark and cold of mid-winter during Epiphany Season we will offer a Service of Light. In Lent, the that prepares us for Easter, we will offer Stations of the Cross. In Eastertide, the fifty day period between Easter Day and the Day of Pentecost, we will offer Eucharistic Benediction. Throughout the summer months, during the Season after Pentecost, we will offer a quiet prayer servive in our Memorial Garden. If you are interested in helping to plan and offer Ways To Praise, please contact the parish office.

Morning Prayer & Evening Prayer: This is the daily morning and evening service of the Church. The service includes the recitation of psalms, readings from the Bible and prayers to begin or conclude the day. Morning Prayer is also called "Matins". Evening Prayer is also called "Vespers" or "Evensong". Each service lasts about 15-20 minutes.

Child Care & Sunday School: Child Care is offered during every Sung Eucharist (whether it is on a Sunday or on a weekday Holy Day). More information about Child Care at Good Shepherd is available here. Sunday School is offered Sundays between Septmeber and June at 10:00 AM. Sunday School meets during the Liturgy of the Word (readings, sermon, etc.) and the children join the rest of the Congregation for the Holy Communion.
