Mission & Outreach

There are many opportunities to get involved in mission work and outreach programs at Good Shepherd. Please contact Father Matthew Mead (mead@goodshepherdny.org) for more information or if you would like to donate time or money to our outreach efforts.

    The Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee is the central hub off of which all of Good Shepherd's Outreach projects extend (like spokes on a wheel). The Committee meets once a month to discuss and plan upcoming events and projects. All are welcome to join the Committee; just come to the meeting!

    Community Center of Northern Westchester

Every month food and supplies are given by Good Shepherd to the Food Pantry at the Community Center of Northern Westchester. A basket at the back of the church is always available for donations. The Food Pantry is specifically looking for:
    •Dried black and pinto beans
    •Cold cereal
    •Tuna
    •Canned beef stew
    •Spaghetti sauce
    •Fruit juice
    •Baby food
    •Diapers

    Support Connection Annual Walk

Each year the Good Shepherd fields a team for the Support Connection Annual Walk. Our team in 2009 made it to the Ray of Champions by raising over $1800.00. Support Connection is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that has been offering free personalized support programs for people affected by breast and ovarian cancer since 1996. By providing our individualized services in a warm, caring environment, Support Connection has made a difference in thousands of lives.

    Carpenter's Kids Program

The Church of the Good Shepherd supports the Carpenter's Kid's Program of the Diocese of New York.

The Carpenter's Kids Program is a partnership between the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika and the Episcopal Diocese of New York. "Carpenter's Kids" are Tanzanian HIV/AIDs orphans and other vulnerable children who are selected after screening by their parishes. The aim of the program is to ensure that each child receives a school uniform, a pair of shoes, breakfast every morning, and adequate school supplies to enable them to attend primary school.

    Visit the Carpenter's Kids Website

There are more than 2.5 million AIDS orphans in Tanzania - children who are missing at least one parent struck down by the disease and who live without visible means of support. The Diocese of Central Tanganyika is a leader in public health and education, sponsoring health clinics, schools, and AIDS prevention programs. It simply needs the resources to extend its work.

The partnership between The Episcopal Diocese of New York and The Diocese of Central Tanganyika will link parishes in a mutual relationship of prayer, communication, and support. The two dioceses will identify parishes on both sides willing to enter in a multi-year engagement, with EDNY congregations agreeing to provide $50 per child, per year, for school, breakfast, uniforms and books.

    Good Shepherd Christmas Bazaar

The Church of the Good Shepherd holds an annual Christmas Bazaar (November 7, 2009). All proceeds go directly to a variety of Mission and Outreach efforts.

    Maundy Thursday Offering

Money collected on Maundy Thursday is traditionally given directly to the poor. Each year, the parish vestry determines which specific project will receive the offering.

    AA at Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd hosts a wide variety of groups. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) groups meet on Sunday and Wednesday evenings each week.

    Boy Scouts

Good Shepherd sponsors a local Boy Scout Troop. The Scouts serve one Sunday a year as Readers and Ushers. Click here to see their website.
