Music
Music is historically an integral part of Christian worship. In the New Testament we read that Jesus prayed Psalms from the Psalter, and after the Last Supper he and his disciples sang hymns.
At Good Shepherd hymns and liturgical chanting
are part of the 10:00 AM Sung Holy Eucharist.
Hymns are taken from the Hymnal 1982.
The choir may sing an anthem or two.
The congregation and celebrant chant ancient tones
for certain parts of the service.
Are you interested in joining the parish choir? The choir is a warm fellowship
of music-loving parishioners which sings at the 10:00 a.m.
service most Sundays from mid-September to mid-June.
In addition to leading the congregation in the hymns,
we often perform special musical pieces during the Offertory.
We meet for rehearsal each Sunday after the 10:00 a.m. service
(yes, you have time to get some coffee first!). Everyone is most warmly
invited to join us, whether you are an experienced singer or a
"just-in-the-shower"; vocalist (basses and tenors are particularly needed).
The choir also performs a special Concert on Christmas Eve.
Even if you do not regularly sing in the choir, you are welcome to
join us for this special performance. Estimated time commitment:
1 hour/week during the regular season, 2-3 hours/week right
before the Christmas concert. If you wish to join the choir,
please contact Ms. Cecilia Sparacio, Organist at
cecilia.sparacio@gmail.com
Throughout the year, Good Shepherd also offers and hosts a variety of concerts.
For your convenience, the calendar to the left includes only scheduled concerts, recitals, and services with music, singing, and hymns.
A number of parishioners at Good Shepherd are involved in outside musical projects:
