The Rector
The Reverend Matthew Hoxsie Mead is the seventh rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd; he was called as rector in September, 2009. Before being called to Good Shepherd, Father Mead served as Curate at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Times Square, New York City. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2004.
Matthew and his wife Nicole were married in 2004; they have two children: Liam who was born in 2006 and Nicholas who was born in 2009. Matthew was born in Boston in 1976 to Andrew and Nancy Mead. He has one sister, Emma.
Father Mead graduated from the University of Chicago in 1998, with a Bachelors in Philosophy. He graduated from Yale University in 2004 with a Masters in Divinity with a certificate in Anglican Studies from the Berkeley Divinity School.
In addition to his work at Good Shepherd,
Matthew also serves on several committees in the Episcopal Diocese of New York:
he was elected to Diocesan Council in 2007;
he was appointed to the Congregational Support Plan Committee in 2007;
he was appointed to the Hispanic Grant Committee in 2008;
he was appointed to the Commission On Ministry in 2009;
he was appointed to the Episcopal-United Methodist Dialogue in 2009.
